Motherwell weren't helped by a straight red card shown to stand-in captain Stephen O'Donnell for a foul on Ross Callachan, which allowed him to double Hamilton's lead from the spot.

Hamilton were in command for the entire first half though and Callachan and Anderson had already combined to carve the first goal, so much so that Hakeem Odoffin was able to strut his stuff, with a Cruyff-like turn.

Motherwell's misery continued as sub David Moyo stretched Hamilton's lead with his first touch of the ball, side-footing into the net just after the hour-mark.

Mark O'Hara pulled a goal back from the spot in 68 minutes when Brian Easton tripped Devante Cole, but it was too little, too late.

Motherwell boss Graham Alexander made one change to the side that beat Kilmarnock in midweek, as O'Hara came in for Robbie Crawford in midfield.

That meant no place for captain Declan Gallagher, on his 30th birthday.

Hamilton head coach Brian Rice kept with the same side that drew with Rangers last time out.

Accies scored with the first real attack of the game in seven minutes when Scott McMann played in Callachan on the left and his cutback was slammed into the bottom left corner by Anderson for his first Hamilton goal.

Hamilton tried to double their lead in 11 minutes when Lee Hodson's cross from the right picked out Ogkmpoe, but he headed just over.

At the other end, Tony Watt headed over from a corner in 16 minutes.

It all went wrong for Motherwell in the 18th minute, when O'Donnell pulled Callachan back inside the box, with referee David Munro pointing to the spot and showing a straight red card to the Scotland defender for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity.

Callachan stepped up to bury the penalty, but the referee spotted keeper Liam Kelly off his line and ordered a re-take, but the former Hearts star held his nerve to blast the ball into the bottom left corner for his eighth goal of the season.

Hamilton bagged their killer third in 31 minutes when Anderson played a superb ball through for Ogkmpoe, he brushed off Bevis Mugabi and rifled into the net for his fourth goal of the season.

Ogkmpoe nearly grabbed his second in 38 minutes, heading narrowly wide on an angle from McMann's free kick from the left.

O'Hara tried his luck with a free kick in 55 minutes, but it deflected off the wall into Ryan Fulton's arms.

Hamilton made it 4-0 in 64 minutes, when sub Moyo side-footed in a McMann cross with his first touch of the ball.

Motherwell pulled a goal back from the spot in 68 minutes when Accies captain Brian Easton fouled Cole, and O'Hara rammed in the spot-kick despite Fulton getting a hand to it.

It all got a bit much for Motherwell boss Graham Alexander, who was shown a red card and sent to the stand in 80 minutes.
